Start with a thanks!

We wanted to kick off proceedings with a huge heartfelt thank you to all the support staff, whether they are nurses, grounds staff, administrative team, bursary, cleaners or kitchen staff. They work tirelessly behind the scenes, and are never thanked enough. Here is Chris working late to help organise a surprise Christmas lightshow for the boys and staff at the Alleyn Park site.

The DPL End of Lockdown Concert

To celebrate reaching the end of Lockdown 2, our musicians have made something rather special. Grab a cup or a glass, settle in to a comfy chair, and enjoy 30 minutes of musical joy!

Cookie Monster!

What better way to get in the festive spirit by baking up a batch of holiday cookies?  You could show your gratitude to a parent or relative by baking them some taste-sensations.  Leave them on a doorstep as a surprise, or at the bottom of their bed – they are bound to make someone smile!  Mrs Steyn has picked out a great series of the best cookies of 2020 – you can sign up here.

Is this His cuddly?

The Early Years Nativity plays always stay long in the memory. Here is a sneak peek behind the scenes. In this rehearsal, we see Joseph show a wonderful kindness and consideration for the young baby.

Ham it up!

For those of you who are cooking for vegans, or trying to persuade otherwise unreconstructed carnivores, Mrs Steyn recommends this recipe. It is swede, but not as you know it. Go and download it!

DT does Christmas

Our DT Wednesday club have spent the last few weeks doing some amazing things.

They have created stencils to make 3D free-standing Christmas trees to decorate the school windows. They made models in card to test them and then 3D-printed them in different acrylic colours. They have now made moulds for pewter cast stars that they can add to their creative designs.

Along side these, inspired by Noah in Year 7 they have made thermochromic mugs.

A Pre-Prep Picasso

This Christmas card is from a Myles who spent his holidays and weekends creating the most amazing art works for the walls of the Pre-Prep. We currently have 12 pieces that are being framed ready to go up. We love his effort and the results with all their bold, beautiful vibrant colours!

Jolabokaflod

In Iceland, every Christmas Eve, there is a Jolabokaflod, which translates roughly to Christmas book flood in English.  Everyone gives each other a favourite book to curl up with.  The idea started during World War II, when rationing was in place and when paper was one of the few things not rationed. Because of this, Icelanders gave books as gifts while everything else was in short supply.

Mrs Fletcher provides us with our own Jolabokaflod every Christmas and her recommendations this year are here. COVID has meant that there has been a book bonanza this autumn, so if you would like more suggestions and help choosing some of the best new children’s offerings, do head to websites such as Book Trust or Love Reading

The Carol-athon

Within seconds of the authorities having changed the rules on singing outside, Mr Sperring and Mr Brooke were discussing plans for a whole day of Carol singing involving everyone from Pre-Prep to Upper School

We thought we would try another Prep first and turn the event into a podcast. You can listen here

Rudolph Cookies

Year 8 have been making some delicious chocolatey red-nosed Rudolph Cookies in the cookery suite. There is a recipe here if you want to try them at home – and we would strongly recommend that you do!

She is a witch!

Yes, Christmas is a time for family, for giving, and for thinking of others. It is also a time for laughter – thank you to these boys and the Drama department!

Comfort and Joy

Our boys have been designing a range of Christmas cards to spread comfort and joy this Christmas. First up are the entries to the Christmas card competition, proceeds of which go to Crisis.

Along side that, Pre-Prep have designed cards to give to our neighbouring pensioners along with Christmas hampers donated by the friends. We cannot do our usual party for them this year so we hope it brings a smile to their faces.

A bit of Rowan Atkinson

You are a little early!

We bet you are also the sort of person that sneaks downstairs before anyone else is up on Christmas day so that you can check on all the presents 🙂
